Redfish Action

This past Friday, Capt. Kris Kelley and I set out to do a little evening pre-fishing, throwing our new favorite Brown Lures. We were drift fishing the northern end of San Antonio Bay using the amber Sea Devils rigged with 1/8 oz. screw lock jig heads. The action was a little slower than that of the past weeks. We dug in hard to scratch out 17 trout and 2 reds while working the deeper shell pads. The trout were ranging from 18” to 23” and the reds were 21” and 23”.

Saturday evening proved to be much tougher than Friday, coming up with only a handful of undersized trout on our first couple of stops. I then decided to shift gears in a hurry and concentrate on Redfish. We got on a massive school of Reds tight to the Northern shoreline of SAB while throwing crab on the bottom. We caught full limits of Reds, mostly in the lower to middle slot, and released another 20 or so!

On another note, the duck action has been hot! All of our shooters managed full limits consisting of Pintail, Gadwall, Blue & GW Teal, Canvasback, Bluebill, Mottled duck, Redheads, Widgeon and Northern Shoveler. Check out our post on the hunting board, it’s full of pictures.

Happy Holidays from everyone at Castaway Lodge!
